Here’s a story that pro wrestling fans don’t hear every day — pirates prevented the Elimination Chamber from being delivered on time to Western Australia.
The Elimination Chamber structure took over a month to get to Perth. Michael Cole said pirates delayed the delivery of the Chamber during the Elimination Chamber press conference.
According to Cole, the structure was supposed to be sent by boat through the Suez Canal. However, pirates stopped the progress of that trip, so the Chamber was sent to Miami, then shipped by truck to Los Angeles, where it was then shipped to Sydney, and finally delivered to Perth by train.
PCO looks back on swashbuckling days
WWE had a few pirates on their roster in the past, including when PCO had a run as Jean Pierre LaFitte back in the mid-1990s.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, PCO spoke about his days as LaFitte in the (then) WWF. PCO joined the company in 1993 as Pierre Ouellet, one-half of the Quebecers. He was repackaged two years later as LaFitte and ultimately feuded with Bret Hart after stealing some of the Hitman’s belongings.
PCO was asked what his favorite thing he stole was during his time as a pirate. He had an immediate reply.
“Bret [Hart]’s jacket, of course. [laughs] I stole so many things. I stole the Puerto Rican flag, I stole Bret’s sunglasses, Bret’s jacket, among others. But the jacket was something that was kind of cool for me,” he explained. “Growing up was a big fan of the Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs. So to be able to have great matches and then to be able to feud with one of my heroes. That was pretty phenomenal for me.”
