Mandy Rose talks about the moment that almost was.
Mandy Rose (Mandy Sacs) was a guest on Threads with McKenzie Mitchell. The pair looked back on some of the ring gear from Mandy’s WWE career. Mitchell also brought up rumors that Mandy was in line for a SmackDown title win at WrestleMania 35.
“Vividly, it’s hard to remember. But I do remember moments of what happened and I don’t think I’ve ever shared this anywhere either. But it was very upsetting because it was one of those moments that could be really cool for me, but then it was just, ‘Welp, maybe next time.’ But yeah, I do remember,” Mandy explained. “We were in a storyline; it was Sonya Deville and Asuka and myself. Sonya and myself, we had some conflict created, it was the beginning of it, where we cost each other matches and we weren’t getting on the same page with things.”
Mandy noted how they had singles matches with Asuka, and it was supposed to lead to a WrestleMania program.
Anything can change…
“I was told from somebody [that] it would potentially be me versus Asuka for the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania,” she stated. “Which I was like, ‘Whoa!’ But I don’t know if I really believed it, to be honest.
“It was. It’s a super big moment. I was taking it with a grain of salt,” she added. “Anything can happen, anything can change. And so it did, but it was one of those moments where it was just shitty and you had to get back to the drawing board. I remember venting to a few people about it, but it was a little disappointing, but it was one of those things that happens.”
Mandy said she had special gear made for the show. However, she ended up wearing it in the women’s battle royal on the card. Asuka and Mandy were two of the 17 women who competed in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal that year.
Mandy did not clarify if it was supposed to be a singles or multi-women match during the interview. However, former WWE writer Dave Schilling previously revealed the match would have been a triple threat between Mandy, Asuka and Sonya.
