Jey Uso looks back on CM Punk’s return to WWE.
On November 25, members of WWE Universe received a major surprise when former WWE Champion CM Punk appeared on the entrance stage at the conclusion of WWE Survivor Series: WarGames. WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque later confirmed that the deal between Punk and WWE came together rather quickly, making Punk’s return all the more shocking for fans, as well as talent. During a recent interview with TNT Sports, WWE RAW star Jey Uso recalled his reaction to seeing Punk back in WWE as he stood inside the WarGames cage at the end of the premium live event.
“It was a surprise,” Uso said. “You could tell all of us in [the cage], as soon as his music hit, we all stopped being character. We’re all standing in the middle ring talking. I’m like, ‘Man did you know? What’s going on here?’ I think there’s a clip of me and Randy [Orton] in there talking that’s on the internet. You see Seth [Rollins] going ham down there.“
“I had no clue, and that’s the fun thing about wrestling. You think you know it all sometimes, and man it’s cool to be surprised every now and then. We’re getting the same reaction as the fans at the same time sometimes, but I’m not saying all the time. Sometimes we do know, but man it’s cool when you get the reactions, you get to experience CM Punk’s return.”
Following his return, Punk made it clear that he intends to fulfill his major goal of headlining WrestleMania. The road to WrestleMania will begin this weekend, as Punk, along with 29 other men, compete in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble.
