The Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic continued on the January 16 episode of WWE NXT.
Tuesday’s show featured two first-round bouts. First, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams faced Malik Blade faced Edris Enofe and Malik Blade. Enofe paid tribute to Dusty Rhodes with some gear that was clearly inspired by “The American Dream.” Williams and Hayes put aside the issues they have been having in recent months, as they showcased impressive chemistry.
Blade and Enofe showcased their experience with some double-team maneuvers that wowed the crowd. Hayes grounded Enofe, but Blade and Enofe rallied and isolated Hayes. Williams tagged in and cleared house. The teams kept battling, and Enofe got a two-count with an elbow drop. In the end, Williams hit a knee strike for the win.
In the final first-round bout, Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde of the LWO Faced Duke Hudson and Riley Osborne of Chase U. Zelina Vega accompanied the LWO duo to the ring. Wilde and Del Toro gained the upper hand early on. Chase U took control, and after momentum swung back in favor of the LWO, Duke Hudson rallied. Hudson slammed Toro, but he was not the legal man. Wilde capitalized and hit him with a diving DDT. Cruz then clinched the win by pinning Hudson.
In the semi-finals, the LWO will face Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. On the other side of the bracket, Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin will face Axiom and Nathan Frazer. The finals will be held at NXT Vengeance Day.
