Kevin Owens will challenge Logan Paul for the WWE United States Championship at WWE Royal Rumble.
On WWE SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution on January 5, Kevin Owens battled Santos Escobar in the finals of a tournament that would crown Paul’s next contender. Early on in the bout, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro of the LWO ran to ringside and brawled with Angel and Humberto, who accompanied Escobar to the ring. Additionally, Logan Paul joined the broadcast team for the match.
Owens and Escobar battled it out in a hard-fought contest. Escobar often targeted Owens’ broken hand, but the former Universal Champion kept fighting. Escobar countered a Stunner, but Owens floored him with a pop-up powerbomb. Owens then hit a Stunner for the win.
After the bell, Paul sarcastically congratulated Owens. Paul called himself the greatest United States Champion of all time. “The Maverick” then took some shots at Canada. He got in Owens’ face, and “KO” dropped him with a punch.
Owens previously beat Austin Theory and Carmelo Hayes to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Escobar defeated Dragon Lee and Bobby Lashley.
