Swerve Strickland has his sights set on Samoa Joe and the AEW World Championship. However, a familiar foe may stand in his way.
Strickland has gained plenty of momentum in recent months. He beat former AEW World Champion Hangman Page at AEW WrestleDream and Full Gear. Swerve then had an impressive showing in the AEW Continental Classic, as he made it to the Gold League Finals. At AEW Worlds End, Strickland defeated Dustin Rhodes, who filled in for Keith Lee. Lee was unable to compete due to injury.
In a promo in the January 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, Swerve Strickland made it clear that he intended to win the world title in 2024. He noted that he was expecting to face MJF, but he turned his attention to the new champion, Samoa Joe. Strickland told Joe that he was coming for him.
In the main event, Strickland defeated Daniel Garcia in a hard-fought match. He stood tall after the bell, and Prince Nana started to announce him as the next champion. But Page charged to the ring and stared down his bitter foe. The two stars brawled, and security officials struggled to separate them as the show came to an end.
