David Finlay vows to take over NJPW.
David Finlay will have the chance to score a major victory at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18. There, he will face Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay to crown the inaugural IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, David Finlay shared his thoughts ahead of the bout. He called it the biggest match of his career.
“Some people expected me to be my father,” said Finlay. “Or they questioned why I wasn’t like Bullet Club leaders from the past. I’ve always had big boots to fill. This is my opportunity to make my own history.”
“It’s the biggest match of my career. They’re both mega-stars. Moxley transcends wrestling. He had an incredible time in WWE, and he’s a cornerstone of AEW. Ospreay had an incredible year, which is something we seem to say every year. I’m going to be in the ring with two big stars, but this is my time.”
David Finlay Won’t Leave NJPW Until He Conquers It
David Finlay also highlighted how he has been a constant for NJPW, whereas Moxley is coming in for a special match and Ospreay is on his way out the door. He stated that he belongs in NJPW, and he will not leave until he conquers it.
“I’ve been a constant for the past nine years,” said Finlay. “Mox is coming for a cup of coffee. Ospreay is leaving soon [to wrestle for AEW]. They say they love Japan and they say it’s so hard to leave, then they dry their tears with first-class tickets home.”
“I absolutely belong here, and I’m going to show why. Japan is a kingdom I’m going to conquer. I’m not leaving until I do.”
WrestleZone will have coverage of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 once it airs on January 4.
