Update On ‘Expected’ Former WWE Champion Teased For 1/1 WWE RAW

As previously reported, a former WWE Champion is expected to appear on the January 1 episode of WWE RAW. A new update shines some light on the situation.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that the qualifications of the “WWE Champion” phrasing are unclear. However, it seemingly indicates that it refers to a former WWE Champion, not someone who has held another title.

Sapp writes that no talent or creative sources Fightful spoke to know the identity of the individual, but they are set to get a full segment on RAW.

Additionally, it is worth noting that The Rock appeared on College GameDay in Pasadena, a few hours away from San Diego, the site of RAW. One WWE higher-up noted that this was a compelling argument. That being said, they would not confirm or deny The Rock as the former champion. However, Sapp writes that The Rock is the one who is expected to appear on RAW.

WWE president Nick Khan was “hanging out” with The Rock in Pasadena on Monday, per Sapp.

WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE RAW as it airs on Monday.
