Lio Rush wants to find one place where he can settle down and put the company on his back.
Lio Rush has competed throughout the wrestling world; he has had prominent runs in WWE, AEW, NJPW, and IMPACT Wrestling. He has also wrestled throughout the independent scene. Rush has been sidelined since October due to an illness. However, he will return to the ring in January.
In an interview with Grapsody’s Righteous Reg and Philip Lindsey for Fightful, Lio Rush made it clear that he is looking to land in one place, as he wants to find stability (H/t Fightful for the transcription)
“Right now, it’s day by day, but in 2024, I’m looking for a home,” Lio Rush said. “That’s the main thing that I’m looking for in 2024 is stability. I think what a lot of people are doing right now, with wrestling here and wrestling there, wrestling is really at a hot point right now and everybody’s excited.
“Everybody wants to collaborate, everybody wants to get the rub, everybody wants to be everywhere. Everybody wants to be seen everywhere. I feel like for me, I’ve done that for the past two, three years now. I’ve bounced from here to there. That’s not really something I’m looking for right now.”
Lio Rush Wants To Put A Company On His Back
Lio Rish continued by stating that wrestling all over the place can be great, but he noted that it is starting to affect his home life. With that in mind, he is looking for stability in 2024.
“It’s great, it’s great for the companies,” Lio Rush said. “It’s great for a lot of the wrestlers, a lot of the guys and girls who haven’t had the opportunity to wrestle in Japan, wrestle in TNA, wrestle in AEW, wrestle on the independent circuits. I did it.
“At this point, I think it’s starting to bleed a little too much into home life. It’s a lot, it’s a lot for me. It’s a lot for my wife, it’s a lot for my boys. I think we’re all looking for a little bit of stability right now. So 2024, I’m not really looking to be the journeyman. I’m looking to be the man who’s going to put a company on my back and be a champion.”
Lio Rush On His Potential Destination
Lio Rush was also asked whether he was thinking of a specific destination. He made it clear that he wants to find a place that believes in him, and the deal needs to make sense, both for him and his family.
“I could do that anywhere and I’ve already been tested,” he said. “I’ve already shown that I can be a champion. I’ve already shown that I can be a top guy. Now it’s, again, whoever is going to offer contract, whoever is going to offer a deal that makes sense for me and my family. I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve done it all. At this point, I want to be in one place, and whoever is going to show interest in me and have faith in me to be that person for their company, I think that’s where I ultimately land. I don’t have a specific place in mind. Whoever’s paying, that’s what I’m looking at. Whoever is willing to invest in me. I know my worth, I know what I’m capable of.
“I know what I bring to the table, I know how professional I can be. I’m coming up on 10 years. 2024 will be my 10th year in wrestling and I’m looking to do something special. I’m looking to do something that I haven’t been able to do yet. I think I’m fully capable of being a World Champion, not just a champion but a World Champion. I feel like I want to do that, not for myself, but for my family, for black people, for short people. It’s a lot I’m thinking about. We’re not all the way there yet. Maybe we have to do a second interview on New Year’s when my thoughts are there. 2024 is going to be a special year. I’m not getting into it to do random things. Random matches are things that are going to put you on the shelf. Everything is with the purpose, for sure.”
