Samoa Joe is a big fan of the AEW Continental Classic.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Samoa Joe recently sat down with Jay Reddick of the Orlando Sentinel. When asked about his increased television time in recent months, Joe attributes this opportunity to his ongoing rivalry with AEW World Champion MJF.
“I recognize it’s an opportunity to get a bit more TV time,” Samoa Joe said. “I like to have time to get the story across as well as advance things long-term. MJF presents some unique challenges. He’s got an abrasive tongue and wit. He’s duplicitous when he needs to be. But I plan to take a healthy MJF and beat him in due course. I’ll pummel him unmercifully when the time comes at Worlds End.”
When asked where he draws inspiration for his character, Joe credits other forms of entertainment outside professional wrestling.
“Most of my inspiration comes from outside the (wrestling) industry,” Samoa Joe said. “I watch a lot of drama, a lot of big action films, with great speakers plying their trade. I’ll see something that inspires me, recycle it, change it, and make it my own.”
Amid Samoa Joe’s storyline with MJF, the inaugural AEW Continental Classic is underway, and it’s something Joe is a big fan of.
“It’s been a fantastic tournament, with matches defying expectations every single night,” Samoa Joe said. “Everybody’s giving 120% in the ring. It’s one of the best new things to come along in a while. When the participants were first announced, that sparked more excitement in the locker room than just about anything lately, and everybody’s gone so far above and beyond as a result.”
