Wes Lee is injured.
During the December 5 episode of WWE NXT, Wes Lee made an appearance in the ring while using a crutch to announce that he has to undergo back surgery due to pain and loss of feeling in his legs. As a result, he will not be able to challenge NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio this Saturday.
“Dirty Dom” then interrupted Lee and taunted him with the fact that he’ll have a night off this weekend. However, Wes Lee had Rey Mysterio announce via satellite that Dragon Lee will challenge Dominik instead.
Vic Joseph noted on commentary that Lee’s recovery timetable is 8 to 12 months, which will put him out of action indefinitely.
Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the injury is 100% legitimate.
