What’s in a name? Adam Copeland breaks down what made Sexton Hardcastle tick.
Copeland was a guest on Hey! (EW) with RJ City, who asked what made the Rated R Superstar choose “Sexton Hardcastle” as his ring name. Copeland used that name in the early 90s when he was breaking in the wrestling industry, and shared who Sexton Hardcastle really was.
“Mmm… an enigma. A cornucopia of sexuality,” Copeland said.
RJ City then asked if the gimmick was that he didn’t take the wrestling business seriously.
“I didn’t take anything seriously, I still don’t. I mean, I’m on this show. Why are you RJ City? Why aren’t you RJ Village, why aren’t you RJ Hamlet? Hmm? RJ Town,” Copeland quipped. “I really think RJ Hamlet would be good. What is a hamlet? Is it 10 people?”
“It’s 12,” RJ Hamlet replied. “Can we get back to the Sexton Hardcastle business? If my name was ‘Humper Erectbulding’ I don’t think I would be here today.
What’s your porn star name?
“Most wrestling names sound like porn names, but that sounded like a porn parody of a wrestling name,” City said of Copeland’s former moniker.
“Well, that was the idea,” Copeland said.
City then asked Copeland what his porn name would be. Using the street name/pet name formula, he says he would be ‘Chip Broadway.’
RJ provided a few more examples for Copeland to think about, including “Edging and Christian” and “On This Gay,” both of which got a belly laugh from the AEW star.
