Nick Wayne: I’m Very Grateful To Be Under Christian Cage’s Learning Tree

Nick Wayne discusses learning from Christian Cage.

At AEW WrestleDream, Nick Wayne turned heel and aligned with TNT Champion Christian Cage. He has been by Cage’s side on AEW programming ever since.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nick Wayne was asked whether Cage has been hands-on helping him with his character.

“Very much so, yes,” Nick Wayne said. “I feel very grateful every week to be under his Learning Tree. His brain is like no other.”

Nick Wayne Is Getting Used To Being Hated As A Heel

Nick Wayne continued by describing how he had never been hated until he turned heel. He noted that he had always been a babyface, so he is still getting used to this new role and what it entails.

“So I’ve never been hated until now,” Nick Wayne said. “I’ve been a babyface, and I feel like it would write itself for me to be a babyface from like 14 or 12 until now. So this is kind of like my first time being an actual heel and like being displayed as a bad guy like I’ve taken control in face versus face matches, but it was never like boo, you know?

“But now it’s like my first time being presented and wrestling and being put out there as a heel. It’s still getting in the comfort process. Because I’ve only had two matches as a heel, but like all the segments and everything, it feels natural because I’m in there with the people I’m in there with. But it’s still something I’m kind of getting used to.”

Nick Wayne: Getting Booed Has Resonated With Me

Nick Wayne also detailed how being booed has resonated with him. He recalled how fans have flipped him off and cursed him out. Wayne pointed out that getting these reactions as a heel means you’re doing the right thing.

“All the times where I was a face I would get those natural happy and yay reactions because of athleticism or because they saw pain on my face and they wanted to see me win,” Nick Wayne said. “But now I wondered I was like, Is this gonna work? Are they going to boo me? And then the night of WrestleDream when we did the turn and I walked back up the ramp on each side of the ramp were people sticking their arms giving me the two middle fingers over the guardrail.

“Wrestling and doing these segments, it’s like I hear many boos and I hear many people, ‘Go f*ck you, Nick! I f*cking hate you, Nick!’ So it’s great. I feel like if I’m getting those bad reactions then you’re doing the right thing as a heel.”

On the November 22 episode of AEW Dynamite, Christian Cage will “rechristen” Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs on Wednesday.
