Cody Rhodes comments on the news that Sting‘s retirement is on the horizon.
Cody and Sting interacted on the December 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, where “The Icon” spoke for the first time following his arrival in AEW. The segment led many fans to hope that the two stars would have a match, but it never came together. In February 2022, Rhodes departed AEW and signed with WWE. On the October 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, Sting revealed that his last match will be at AEW Revolution.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on the news that Sting’s legendary career is coming to an end.
“The last match I was offered in AEW was that match,” Cody Rhodes said. “It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory. I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career.”
Previously, Rhodes said a match with Sting was set to be the endgame of his heel run in AEW. Check out his comments here.
