Giulia Demands More Fierce NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship Competition

She successfully defended her NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship against Hyan at New Japan’s Fighting Spirit Unleashed event in Las Vegas. Now, STARDOM’s Giulia expressed her hunger for higher caliber competition to challenge for her title.

NJPW Academy graduate Trish Adora has already been announced as the succeeding challenger after a post-match confrontation with the champion. Giulia still looks forward to squaring off against more powerhouse wrestlers during her reign.

A new perspective

In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports (via Himanshu Doi), she mentioned feeling unsatisfied after experiencing the western wrestling style. Giulia shared that it did not live up to the level of physicality in her previous battles in Japan, which were notorious for stiffer striking sequences and high angled bumps. Her opponents need not worry about going to extreme lengths of physicality with her. She is resilient enough to take whatever offense is thrown at her.

“Until now, I’ve had teeth knocked out or eardrums ruptured on a daily basis. I was probably excited about that, but I guess I was a little unsatisfied,” Guilia said, via translation by Himanshu Doi on Twitter. “I’m looking forward to meeting strong overseas wrestlers with whom I can compete seriously. I don’t care what they do to me.”

On the other hand, the Donna Del Mondo leader also discussed how her perspective on the industry has changed since wrestling outside of Japan. She wants to explore opportunities to wrestle in other countries. Her experiences of wrestling in Japan feel minuscule compared to the possibilities of performing around the globe.

“Every time I feel that there are a lot of good wrestlers in the world. When I look at the world, I realize how small and insignificant I am in my small world. I want to go to various places, see things, breathe the fresh air, gain experience, and become big.”

Giulia looks to further advance her international recognition with competitive title defenses. New Japan Pro-Wrestling also continues to foster its growing STRONG women’s division with determined challengers willing to battle against the fighting champion.
