Jason Baker: Bray Wyatt Nearly Delayed WWE Return When My Grandmother Passed Away

According to Jason Baker, Bray Wyatt‘s WWE return in 2022 could have been pushed back.

On August 24, Windham Rotunda, also known as Bray Wyatt, passed away suddenly. He was a beloved person in the wrestling world, as he was renowned for his passion and his creativity. Fans were excited when Wyatt returned to WWE at Extreme Rules 2022 after he was previously released in 2021.

In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Jason Baker, a close friend of Wyatt, looked back on collaborating with him ahead of his return. Baker detailed how his own grandmother passed away ahead of Wyatt’s planned comeback. The former world champion didn’t hesitate to offer to push back his return.

“He was gonna go home for a few days and come back and then we were gonna finalize everything for the Extreme Rules return,” Baker said. “An hour later after I dropped him off at the airport, I got the call from my mom saying that she’d passed away. Shot him a text saying, ‘Hey man, I got the call’. Without even skipping a beat, Windham goes, “Do you wanna push this back?'”

Jason Baker Highlights Bray Wyatt’s Kindness

Jason Baker continued by noting that Wyatt told him he would understand if he couldn’t make Extreme Rules as planned. But Baker explained that he knew it was a big moment for Wyatt. He also stated that he felt like he could pay tribute to his grandma, who loved wrestling.

“It was like, ‘What?’ He was like, ‘Yeah man. look, I know how important your grandma was to you, and I can’t do this without you. If you can’t do it, I won’t hold that against you, and we can push it back.’

“It’s like dude, look – I know I don’t come from the wrestling world but I know how much of a unicorn second chances are in that industry, and I can’t ask you to do that. But that’s just how he was, he was a wonderful person. Past all the work and all the amazing things he did as a wrestler, he was just an amazing human, an amazing friend.”

Zelina Vega previously said she feels like Bray Wyatt’s supportive presence will live on in WWE. Check out her comments here.
