Pro-Wrestling Australia Black Label Boasts Stacked Lineup For Two-Night ‘Colosseum’ Event

Pro-Wrestling Australia is preparing for its biggest weekend of the year.

This weekend, Pro-Wrestling Australia Black Label will host a two-day event entitled Colosseum, featuring a competitive eight-person tournament. This tournament, which boasts a lineup of Australia’s best grapplers, will begin on October 21, before culminating the following day on night two of Colosseum.

Competitors in the 2023 Colosseum Tournament include the likes of former PWA Heavyweight Champion Jack Bonza, former Soul of PWA Champion Cherry Stephens, and current NJPW World Television Champion Zack Sabre Jr. The full breakdown of the opening-round matchups for this tournament is as follows:

  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Jack Bonza
  • Jude London vs. Emman Azman
  • Paris De Silva vs. DELTA
  • Grimm vs. Cherry Stephens

Outside of the 2023 Colosseum Tournament, PWA will also be presenting the highly anticipated title match between “Tuff Stuff” Ricky South and “The Arm Collector” Jessica Troy. In this October 21 main event, Troy will challenge South for the PWA Heavyweight Championship. South has successfully defended the title against Troy once before, defeating her at the
PWA Black Label Why No Queensland? event in October 2022.

Elsewhere on Saturday’s card, Unsocial Jordan will defend the Soul of PWA Championship against The Tuckman. As of this writing, six teams have been announced as participants in the tag team gauntlet, which is also slated for night one of Colosseum. Confirmed teams in this year’s Gauntlet match are: Michael Spencer & Tommy Dee, Back Pain (Backman & Jack Pain), Prima Pi Kappa (Frankie B & Nikki Van Blair), The Joker And The Thief (Jimmy Townsend & Mick Moretti), SMS (Aaron Jake & Bel Pierce), and The Backslide Girlz (Kingsley & Shay Kassidy).

In addition to the remaining matchups of the 2023 Colosseum Tournament, one other match has been advertised for night two of this event — the Wayward Brewing Co. Six Pack Challenge. The lineup for this match includes Caveman Ugg, Jay Sorbet, Billy Preston, Skater Boi Pidgey, David Streamer, and Ben Braxton.

Fans in attendance will be treated to live music and have the opportunity to meet their favorite wrestlers throughout the two-day show.

Jessica Troy Interview

Jessica Troy Reflects On Another Title Reign

While Troy may be vying for the PWA Heavyweight Championship this weekend, she spoke with WrestleZone about another title earlier this year — that being the MCW Women’s Championship. Following her retirement in November 2021, Aussie veteran Kellyanne subsequently relinquished the Melbourne City Wrestling Women’s Championship. The next month, MCW hosted a Ballroom Blitz match to crown a new champion.

Of the eight competitors who entered the match, it was “The Arm Collector” Jessica Troy who emerged victorious, securing her first reign as MCW Women’s Champion. Troy was obviously excited to add another championship to her resume, but along with her reign, came some added pressure as well.

“Taking over from Kellyanne’s title reign, she was my vet. Then [to] all the people I wrestled, I was their vet. So, I was taking over that role almost exactly. I’m not really used to being that position, but I thought I did a good job,” Troy said. “I was happy to kind of explore not so much being the underdog anymore, but actually the person in control and the one that looks like, ‘Oh, she’s going to win because she has the armbar. She has the experience.’ It was a nice new role for me to play and I hope the other people I wrestled took something away from it as well.”
