Will Ospreay Talks Mental Health Struggles, Doubting Himself With Kenny Omega Match

Will Ospreay candidly speaks about his mental health struggles and how they have impacted his career.

Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Ospreay opened up about his mental struggles. He recalled how he doubted himself when he faced Kenny Omega at the Tokyo Dome.

“I used to be such in such a horrible, dark place where me and my head just didn’t get along. Sometimes it creeps in, especially big matches,” Will Ospreay said. “The Tokyo match with Kenny [Omega], I can’t tell you enough how much doubt creeped into my mind with that. I get mad anxiety when I wrestle guys like Kenny.”

Later in the interview, Ospreay described how his struggles can be factors in his performance. However, he emphasized that having the support of his family makes all the difference.

“My mental health, my depression, my anxiety are huge factors into my performance – especially when you’re away from your family, and you’re left in the hotel rooms,” Ospreay said. “The most important thing for me is my family, and as long as that’s all good, my demons don’t really creep in anymore,’ he said. ‘I’ve found a real big balance.”

Ospreay headlined NJPW Royal Quest III on October 14; he defeated Zack Sabre Jr. to retain the IWGP Unted Kingdom Championship.
