Maven Got Chewed Out By Vince McMahon For Missing Spot In His Wrestlemania Match

Former WWE Superstar Maven has had a few memorable matches in WWE.

During a recent interview with Wrestling Then and Now, the wrestling veteran talked about his match against Goldust (a.k.a Dustin Rhodes) for the Hardcore Championship. The match took place at WrestleMania X8. Maven felt grateful for getting the opportunity to wrestle a lot of the top talents so early in his career.

“To him (Dustin Rhodes, f.k.a Goldust), it was just another match. That’s just like… He’s just so good. That’s what I think. I think I was fortunate in the aspect of the guys I got to work with early in my career. To them it was nothing. So they were… They put me at ease. Taker (The Undertaker) wasn’t worried about the Rumble because it’s just another wrestling match to Taker. And Dustin…

“For Dustin, it was just another six-minute match. He knew how to do it. He’s done a million of ‘em. So it wasn’t like a big deal to him. So he calmed my nerves very early leading up to it. We went over stuff for probably about an hour. Just going over with what we both were comfortable with and getting the trash can lid spot down,” Maven said.

Vince McMahon was furious over Maven missing a spot

During the same match, Maven had a spot where he was supposed to hit a Dropkick on the trash can but he missed it. Since he missed it, Vince McMahon was upset with it.

“I’ll tell you what, I don’t know if you remember that match, but he hip tosses me into the barricade outside and my legs flop over. Oh! My back! I’m still feeling that one. That one hurt. That hurt. But, again, I wasn’t feeling anything, it was Mania. But I missed the trash can on the Dropkick spot. I completely hipped the trash can and Vince chewed my ass backstage for it.

“He’s like, ‘You got one move. You got one move! And you missed it.’ And he wasn’t wrong. But the rest of the match went off good so… and now I’m in wrestling history just for being able to wrestle a match on a WrestleMania which is cool.”

Mid-way through the match, both stars knocked each other out and Spike Dudley ran in and pinned Maven to capture the Hardcore Championship.
