Eddie Kingston aims to build up the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship.
At NJPW STRONG Independence Day, Eddie Kingston defeated KENTA to win the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship. Since then, he has defended the gold three times on AEW programming.
Speaking with Joseph Montecillo forExploding Cage, Eddie Kingston discussed his goal to build up the title.
“It’s a championship that needs to be built up,” Kingston said. “I take it very, very, very serious. Almost as serious as if I was the [AEW] World’s Champion or if I was the IWGP Champion. I take it that serious.”
Kingston also made it clear that he wants to be considered a fighting champion and someone who elevated the title for the next man.
Eddie Kingston is also the reigning ROH World Champion. He will put both titles on the line against Katsuyori Shibata at AEW WrestleDream. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs on October 1.
