Mustafa Ali Was Factored Into NXT Plans Through March 2024

One of the most shocking news stories in the past week was the unexpected list of WWE Superstars that were released from the company. One of the big names on the list of released talent was NXT star Mustafa Ali.

Ali took to Twitter to confirm the news that he was released from the company. He mentioned that he was looking forward to the future.

“I am longer working with WWE. I look forward to the future. Thank you, -Adeel,” Mustafa Ali tweeted.

During his NXT No Mercy media call, Shawn Michaels noted how Ali and Dana Brooke’s releases came as a surprise to him.

A recent report from Fightful (via Fightful Select) has provided fans with more details on the releases, specifically how Ali factored in. According to the report, the news about Mustafa Ali’s and Dana Brooke’s release came as a shock to higher-ups in NXT, as the brand had plans for him that ran through March 2024. It was noted that Ali was set to be a “long-term part” of the brand.

The Black and Gold Brand has been putting in multiple efforts to elevate the Tuesday night show with a lot of names that have been part of the WWE family for several years. Names such as Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, Mustafa Ali, and even Dolph Ziggler had made their return to NXT.

Adding to this list, two of the current champions on NXT were names who made a name for themselves on the main roster. Dominik Mysterio came to Tuesday nights and has become the North American Champion. Becky Lynch, on the other hand, is the Women’s Champion.

The presence of such familiar names helped NXT to grow and gain more viewers for the show. But now with the unexpected releases, things may not be the same. A few sources seemed to be frustrated over the lack of communication between the main roster group and NXT.
