AEW Dynamite Results (9/27/23): International Title Match And More

All Elite Wrestling presented a star-studded episode of AEW Dynamite on September 27.

Wednesday’s show marked the go-home edition for AEW WrestleDream. Among other matches, Rey Fenix defended the AEW International Championship against Jeff Jarrett. Plus, AEW World Champion MJF and Adam Cole appeared.

Elsewhere on the show, Orange Cassidy faced Penta El Zero Miedo, Austin Gunn, and Matt Jackson.

The results are as follows:

AEW Dynamite Results (9/27/23)

AEW International Championship: Rey Fenix (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett (with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh, and Karen Jarrett)

Fenix dives onto Jarrett and Jay Lethal before the bell. They brawl at ringside. Fenix takes down Lethal with a hurricanrana. Karen rakes Fenix’s back. Fenix kicks Sonjay Dutt. The match heads to the ring, where Fenix gets a two-count with a moonsault. Jarrett gains the upper hand and taunts the crowd. Fenix rocks Jarrett with a series of strikes. Satnam Singh interferes, and Jarrett drops the champion with a DDT. Karen interferes, and Lethal and Dutt attack Fenix at ringside.

Jeff controls the action and keeps Fenix grounded. Karen gets involved, and Aubrey Edwards shoves her down. Fenix rallies with a springboard arm drag and stomps Jarrett. Jeff hits Fenix below the belt and gets a two-count with an inside cradle. Jarrett hits the Stroke, but Fenix gets a foot on the rope. Fenix cradles Jarrett and scores the three-count.

Winner and still AEW International Champion: Rey Fenix

In a video package, Adam Cole is on crutches, and he says MJF wanted to celebrate on his dad’s boat. They have fun, but things get serious when MJF questions Cole for being on the phone with Roderick Strong. MJF puts his Dynamite Diamond Ring on, but he denies Cole’s question that he was going to hit him with it. Cole says he has more than one friend, and he cares about Cole. They make up, and as they fish, they “catch” Captain Insano. Insano comes on-board, and they drink together.

Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita are shown in Japan, and Callis says they are “hunting” Kota Ibushi.

In-Ring Segment: Konosuke Takeshita and Don Callis

Don Callis is asked whether Sammy Guevara has joined the Don Callis Family. Callis says he is happy that Guevara is free of Chris Jericho’s toxic influence. Callis introduces Guevara and cues up footage of himself and Takeshita at Kota Ibushi’s dojo. Takeshita attacks a student and brawls with Ibushi. Callis hits Ibushi with an umbrella. Takeshita hits Ibushi with a kettle bell. Takeshita chokes Ibushi with his jacket. Back in the ring, Callis says the Don Callis Family has never been stronger.

Guevara calls himself the hero and says Jericho is the villain. He says Jericho kept cutting him down any time he started to fly. Guevara says he had to take the opportunity for himself. Callis vows that his family will beat Omega, Ibushi, and Jericho.

A video package recaps Bryan Danielson’s win over Ricky Starks. Backstage, Starks says Danielson has never beaten him by pinfall or submission. Wheeler Yuta interrupts, and tensions rise. Yuta calls Starks an entitled prick and says he’s all flash and no substance. He challenges Starks to face him at AEW WrestleDream.

Winner Earns AEW International Championship Match: Brian Cage (with Prince Nana) vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Nick Jackson

Jackson gets dumped to the outside. Cage and Castagnoli square off and trade blows. Nick dives onto Castagnoli and Cage at ringside. Castagnoli gains the upper hand. Cage and Castagnoli keep battling. Jackson plants Cage with a facebuster and drops Castagnoli with a DDT at ringside. He hits a 450 splash for a two-count. Castagnoli puts Cage in the Swing. Jackson sends Castagnoli to the outside. Cage catches Jackson and gets a two-count with the F10. Cage suplexes Castagnoli for a two-count.

Castagnoli and Jackson rock Cage with some strikes. Claudio takes Jackson out with an uppercut and drops Cage with a lariat. Castagnoli powerbombs cage. Jackson sends Castagnoli to the outside and pins Cage.

Winner: Nick Jackson

In a video package, The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch) hype up their looming clash with MJF and Adam Cole. Vincent calls them fake friends.

In-Ring Segment: MJF and Adam Cole

MJF and Adam Cole come out. Cole is on crutches, and his leg is bandaged. Cole says this is a sad chapter of the story. He says his ankle exploded and broke in three places. Cole says he will do everything he can to come back as soon as possible. He starts to say they’ll have to relinquish the ROH World Tag Team Championship. MJF cuts him off and refuses to give them up. He says he will keep the titles so they will be waiting when Cole gets back.

MJF says he will face The Righteous in a handicap match at AEW WrestleDream. Roderick Strong comes out; he’s in a hospital gown and in a wheelchair.

MJF calls Strong a “simp” and says Strong is Cole’s boy, and he has to respect that. MJF tells Cole he’ll be waiting for him when he gets back. They hug, and Cole walks away. He crutches to the back. MJF gets interrupted by Jay White and Bullet Club Gold. White says MJF was intimidated by Bullet Club Gold. MJF says White must be on some strong Colorado grass. He makes fun of Jay White’s goatee. MJF says people moving the goalposts didn’t bother him until he heard he was no Jay White.

MJF says the show is all about MJF when he’s in the ring because nobody is on his level. He says White has managed to convince the fans he’s tofu. MJF says tofu can take on any flavor, but you have to add something to it. He tells White he has been given everything and the tools to succeed. MJF says that if you take away Bullet Club and everything else, Jay White is boring, bland tofu. He says White is all hype, and he is a mass-marketed vision of what someone in Japan thought is top guy. MJF gives him some advice by telling him to leave. He says if he doesn’t, fans will be saying White may be good, but he’s no MJF.

White responds as the fans chant “tofu” at him. He says MJF is distracted by Adam Cole. White says the fans don’t love MJF the way they love Cole. He notes that him hurting Cole at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2022 led to MJF’s friendship with Cole and everything that followed. White says he’s here to ruin MJF’s life. White tells MJF he’ll need to find another level to stop him from taking the title. He says he will be an elite champion when he beats MJF. White says this is the Switchblade Era, and MJF has gone soft. MJF gets fired up and prepares to fight. White rolls out of the ring. MJF poses with the title and stares White down.

Interview: TNT Champion Christian Cage and Darby Allin

Cage says he has been the champion this whole time. He tells Darby Allin he will get exposed at AEW WrestleDream. Allin says Cage won’t be able to beat him in Seattle. He says he has won the title in Seattle before, and he’ll do it again. Cage tells Allin to bring everyone, but Allin won’t let him use Nick Wayne. Cage says Wayne needs a true man and a champion. Allin washes his face paint off, and Cage again says he will expose Allin.

Orange Cassidy vs. Austin Gunn vs. Matt Jackson vs. Penta El Zero Miedo

Penta and Matt go back and forth. Matt sends Austin to the outside. Cassidy takes Jackson down with an arm drag. Penta takes Cassidy down and hits a leg drop. Gunn squares off with Penta. Penta drops him with a chop. He rocks Matt with a kick. Cassidy eats a kick too. Austin drops Penta from behind. He takes control and grounds Cassidy. Austin suplexes Penta. The competitors trade suplexes. Cassidy dives onto Penta and Matt at ringside. Matt dumps Penta with a destroyer. Cassidy spikes Austin with a destroyer.

Jackson suplexes Cassidy. He suplexes Austin and Penta at the same time. Cassidy drops Jackson with the Beach Break.

All three competitors kick Austin. Kicks are flying. Cassidy pins Matt Jackson with the Orange Punch.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

Willow Nightingale vs. Julia Hart (with Brody King)

Willow comes out, and her eye is bandaged. She takes the fight to Hart. Hart drives her into a corner, but Willow overpowers her. She slams Hart and controls the action. Hart heads outside and crawls under the ring. Brody distracts Willow, and Julia attacks Willow from behind. Julia gains the upper hand and grounds Willow. Willow rallies with a slam. Willow escapes the Heartless and drops Julia with a Pounce. Hart pins Willow with a Moonsault.

Winner: Julia Hart

Julia locks in the Heartless after the bell, and TBS Champion Kris Statlander makes the save.

Contract Signing: “Hangman” Adam Page and Swerve Strickland

Page and Strickland come to the ring. Swerve says he has been impressed by Hangman’s fire lately. He says Seattle is his house, and Page will be walking into the lion’s den. Strickland makes it clear that they are very different from each other.

Page thanks Swerve for what he said about him and admits that he has felt a black cloud over his head. Hangman notes that there have been some highlights, but he still struggled. He says he weathered the storm. Page says he has realized that the people deserve more from him. Hangman says Strickland will get his best at AEW WrestleDream.

Strickland calls Page’s message more pathetic than the Denver Broncos. Swerve says it could have been anybody, but it happened to be Hangman in the position he wanted. Strickland says he might have mental health problems because he makes enemies every day. He vows to take Page’s position from him. Hangman says that for every opportunity he has ever had, he knocked it out of the park. Page says Swerve doesn’t have what it takes to fill his boots. Swerve slaps him. Hangman stabs his hand with a pen, and security separates them.

Masked men attack Jay White backstage.

Someone wearing MJF’s devil mask, turns to the camera and turns it off.
