John Cena will return as Peacemaker.
The status of the character has been up in the air for some time now. In October 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran were named as the co-chairs and co-CEOs of the new DC Studios. They began mapping out their plans for the franchise, and it was unclear where Peacemaker fit in. The second season of the series was announced to be in development in February 2022. However, details since then have been few and far between.
In a post on Threads, James Gunn responded to a fan who wondered how Blue Beetle factored into the new DCU. Gunn responded by noting that Xolo Maridueña, Viola Davis, and Cena will reprise their roles.
“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker,” Gunn wrote.
Gunn previously noted that Peacemaker would be coming back after his Superman: Legacy film, which had been slated for a 2025 release.
John Cena first played Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. The character then received a spinoff miniseries on HBO Max, and the first season premiered in January 2022.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
