Dominik Mysterio says he’s putting the Mysterio name on his back.
Dominik, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, initially fought alongside his legendary father. But he turned on Rey at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022, and they feuded for several months.. Rey beat his son at WrestleMania 39, and now the two stars are thriving in their respective ways. Dominik is the reigning NXT North American Champion, while Rey holds the WWE United States Championship.
Speaking with Baby Huey on In The Kliq, Dominik Mysterio was asked whether his current contender, Dragon Lee, could be the next Rey. He stated that there will never be a next Rey Mysterio, as he claimed that he is the only Mysterio who matters.
“I don’t think there will ever be a next Rey Mysterio,” Dominik Mysterio said. “Not because he’s my dad, but because the Mysterio that matters is me. I’m the one out here putting the Mysterio name on my back and taking the NXT North American Title to literally all of North America, which is Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
“No one’s ever done that, so the fact that I’m out here, I’m main-eventing all three shows in one week, literally the main event of Raw every week. There is no next Rey Mysterio. I’m the Mysterio that matters, plain and simple.”
Dominik Mysterio Previews Match Against Dragon Lee
During the interview, Dominik Mysterio was also asked to share his thoughts on his upcoming match with Dragon Lee on the September 25 episode of WWE RAW and whether he is intimidated by Lee’s style. Dominik stated that he is not intimidated, as he has grown up in the Lucha Libre style. “Dirty Dom” also expressed his confidence that he will emerge victorious.
“No, I wouldn’t say I’m intimidated by Dragon Lee,” Dominik Mysterio said. “I’ve dealt with guys like Dragon Lee my entire life, growing up in this Lucha Libre style of wrestling. Especially someone who tries to be like my dad. So you can say I have some experience with it.
“So I don’t think I’m intimidated by him at all. I’ve already beaten him. Unfortunately, he has also had a victory over me, but it was a fluke victory. I have a clean victory over him. So I don’t think I’m really intimidated by him. I see myself walking out as still the NXT North American Champion.”
