WWE SmackDown viewership dropped on September 22.
After The Rock’s return drew a big number on September 15, SmackDown’s viewership numbers came back down to earth this week.
According to the latest Fast Nationals data, this week’s episode of SmackDown preliminary drew 2.115 million viewers, down from last week‘s 2.569 million viewers. In addition to the viewership, the 18-49 demo was 758K, which was enough to keep SmackDown as the number one show on broadcast television Friday night.
Update: Wrestlenomics reports that 2.227 million viewers tuned in on Friday, and SmackDown scored a 0.63 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic.
What happened on WWE SmackDown this week?
This week‘s episode of SmackDown opened up with John Cena coming out and saying he wanted to compete against The Bloodline. This brought out AJ Styles, who revealed he was willing to tag with Cena against them. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa came out but backed down before any physicality took place.
Elsewhere on the show, IYO SKY defeated Asuka to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. Plus, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn took credit for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles being cursed.
In the closing segment of the show, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso took out AJ Styles backstage. The duo then laid John Cena out in the ring.
