Jacob Fatu contemplates his future.
During a recent interview with MuscleManMalcolm, former MLW World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu was asked where he stands with MLW management currently in the wake of recent departures.
“Listen, when it was WWE, AEW was almost there… I remember they told me I wouldn’t have what it takes in an email,” Fatu recalled. “But it’s all good, I’m just talking shit right now. But MLW gave me that platform, Court Bauer did, man. MSL, Low Ki was there, MVP was there at that time. I really needed them. They gave me that platform and they helped me build — bro, they were giving me dope matches. Not only that, they believed in me. When nobody else wanted to take a chance, MLW did, Court Bauer did.”
Fatu also gave a shout-out to his close friend Joseph Cabibbo, who was once part of the Contra Unit stable. Fatu credits Cabibbo for getting him the MLW deal and for starting their faction.
While Fatu is reportedly under MLW contract through late 2025, that hasn’t stopped him from thinking about a potential WWE run.
“To be on WWE, we gotta think about the history,” Fatu said. “All my family’s been there. If I ever have the chance to go there, absolutely, I would love to go there. But mind you, it’s more than just that. I got seven kids. I’m responsible for seven mouths, and eight — I’m responsible for eight people living and breathing, my wife and seven kids. This isn’t because ‘Oh, Fatu,’ no, I really function with everybody. You ain’t heard one person say one thing bad about me backstage with the boys because I don’t get down like that.”
Fatu then pivoted to shout out his friends who are also experiencing success in AEW.
“I love, I watch AEW. I got my boy Will Hobbs over there. Shout out to Will Hobbs, bro,” Fatu said. “Not only that, but to see the other talent that I have been on the road with, for them to experience AEW, it feels good to me because I remember being at that age not having a platform. Any little thing I did, if it felt big to me, I would embrace it. So I’m happy for the boys, I’m happy everybody’s getting money, I’m happy everybody’s tapping in.
“But being in WWE, man, my father, my uncle, look, my cousins are there. So absolutely, if I had the chance, I would go. But if it don’t work out, it don’t work out. Like my sis, Trin. Shout out to Trin, she’s over there in IMPACT. Lance is in Japan, Juicy’s always out there in AAA. It’s about just living life too. Living life, and with me having as many kids as I have, I kind of would like to be somewhere to where I can control my schedule. But I just leave it in God’s hands. My wife told me the same thing with [what] Tim Tebow did, ‘Just pray on it,’ dog. Just pray on it.”
