Claudio Castagnoli: I Don’t Underestimate Eddie Kingston, I Just Don’t Respect Him

Claudio Castagnoli is ready to move on.

The current ROH World Champion will face off with Eddie Kingston in a Winner Takes All match at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam on Wednesday. Kingston’s NJPW Strong title will also be on the line, and Castagnoli gave Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated a preview of what might happen.

“I’m ready to put an end to this chapter. I give Eddie credit for what he’s accomplished. And I don’t underestimate him, I know what he’s capable of,” Claudio Castagnoli said. “I just don’t have any respect for the man.”

“It’s very fitting that it is at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York,” he added. “Who knows what the response will be? What if the crowd doesn’t like Eddie as much as he thinks they will? And what if they do, but he lets them down? Eddie wants all of New York to have his back. I’m not sure that is going to be the case.”

Stealing One At Home

Claudio Castagnoli is looking forward to another big moment in his own career on Wednesday. The moment will mean even more when he takes Kingston’s title in front of his hometown fans.

“In my career, I have been lucky to have had many moments that have mattered to me,” said Claudio Castagnoli. “I just wrestled at Wembley Stadium in London. A week later, I wrestled in front of a sold-out crowd in Chicago. Now it is a title vs. title match at Arthur Ashe in New York.

“I am very excited for this match. This is Eddie’s home,” he added, “and I’m looking forward to taking his title.”
