MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.
The match was confirmed during the September 13 episode of AEW Dynamite. In the main event, Joe defeated Roderick Strong in the finals of the AEW Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament. Strong put up a valiant effort, but he was no match for the Coquina Clutch, as he tapped out to Joe’s signature submission hold.
After the bell, Joe sent a message to MJF by saying he will take everything from the champion.
The night didn’t end there. Strong was on his feet, but he collapsed when Adam Cole came down to the ring. Strong was stretchered to the back, and Cole argued with The Kingdom all the way up the ramp. Samoa Joe took advantage of the situation and blindsided Cole. He locked Cole in the Coquina Clutch as well as he again said he would take everything from MJF.
Samoa Joe advanced to the tournament semifinals by defeating Jeff Hardy on the September 8 episode of AEW Rampage. On the September 9 episode of AEW Collision, he clinched his spot in the finals by beating Penta El Zero Miedo. Meanwhile, Strong beat Trent Beretta and Darby Allin on his way to the finals.
