AEW Dynamite Results (9/13/23): World Title Eliminator Tournament Finals

All Elite Wrestling presented a star-studded episode of AEW Dynamite on September 13.

Among other matches, Jon Moxley defended the AEW International Championship against Big Bill. Plus, Roderick Strong faced Samoa Joe in the finals of the Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament.

The results are as follows:

AEW International Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Big Bill (with Ricky Starks)

Moxley takes the fight to Big Bill, but the challenger overpowers him. Bill slams Moxley and sends him to the outside with a boot to the face. The big man maintains the advantage as the fight spills out of the ring. Moxley slams Bill into the steps. Big Bill takes control again. Back in the ring, Bill grounds Moxley, who is busted open. The champion rallies with a superplex. Bill dumps Moxley with a spinning slam.

Bill boots Moxley in the face. Moxley fires up, and they trade blows. Moxley levels Bill with a lariat. He hammers Bill with some hammer and elbow strikes. Moxley catches Bill with a cutter.

Bill gets a two count with a big boot. Bryan Danielson attacks Starks after he interferes. Starks slams Danielson into the steps. Bill floors Moxley with a chokeslam. Moxley locks in a triangle choke. Danielson stops Starks from breaking it up, and Bill taps out.

Winner and still AEW International Champion: Jon Moxley

Starks attacks Danielson after the bell, and Bill beats up Moxley. Claudio Castagnoli makes the save.

In an interview, Roderick Strong, alongside The Kingdom, is asked about his match against Samoa Joe. Adam Cole interrupts and says this is a bad idea. Roderick Strong says he’ll win the tournament and break MJF’s back.

In-Ring Segment: Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita

Don Callis comes to the ring alongside Konosuke Takeshita. Callis says Takeshita is better than all of the aces. He claims that by beating Kenny Omega twice, Takeshita is now “The Alpha.” Callis comments on Takeshita’s wins over Omega and says beating Omega twice isn’t enough. He says they want to break Omega’s heart. Callis reveals their next target is Kota Ibushi. He vows to “butcher” Ibushi and burn him. Callis says that Omega will be helpless like the pathetic “cuck” that he is.

Backstage, Bryan Danielson challenges Ricky Starks and Big Bill to face him and Claudio Castagnoli on AEW Collision. Rey Fenix confronts Moxley and vows to beat him next week. Eddie Kingston shows up and stares Castagnoli down. He laughs at Castagnoli and says “one more week.”

FTE Champion HOOK was backstage for an interview. Orange Cassidy approached HOOK and wondered what he had to be mad about. HOOK says he was a great champion, and Cassidy returns the compliment.

Grand Slam Women’s World Championship Eliminator: Nyla Rose vs. Britt Baker vs. Toni Storm vs. Hikaru Shida

Baker and Shida gang up on Rose as Storm heads to the outside. Shida and Baker take the fight to Rose and Storm. Rose gets dumped to the outside. Shida dives onto everyone at ringside. The four stars battle it out in the ring. Storm briefly takes control. Shida counters the Beast Bomb and gets a two count with a pin attempt. She rocks Rose with a knee strike and the Katana. Baker drills Shida with a kick and a stomp. Storm rolls Baker up for the win.

Winner: Toni Storm

AEW Women’s World Champion Saraya comments on Toni Storm’s win and previews their match. She says Storm lost her mind, and she’ll also lose the bout next week.

In-Ring Segment: Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara

Chris Jericho hypes up his match with Sammy Guevara at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam and throws to a video package that highlights their friendship. Guevara says he still doesn’t know the lyrics to “Judas.” Jericho looks back on how he told Tony Khan he needed to sign Guevara. He reflects on the way Guevara has grown and says he’s proud of him. Guevara thanks Jericho for changing his life and says there is no AEW without Chris Jericho. However, he tells Jericho that he didn’t just come here to be Jericho’s sidekick.

Guevara says he needs to beat Jericho, as he wants to be looked at as a top star. Jericho says Guevara is getting closer to being a main-event player by the week. He tells Guevara he has to do it on his own. Jericho says Guevara must beat him to get to the next level. He tells Sammy he’ll have to be better than ever in order to do so. Jericho says he doesn’t think Guevara is ready to beat him yet.

Guevara says he’s going to beat Jericho and earn his respect before they go on to win some tag team titles. They shake hands and stare each other down. Jericho says he’s going to give Guevara the match of his life, and he won’t go easy on him. Jericho makes it clear that he expects the same, and Sammy says he wouldn’t want it any other way.

AEW World Champion MJF is shown in the trainer’s room in a clip from last weel, and it is revealed that he won’t be able to travel to Wednesday’s show. He calls Roderick Strong a “simp” and calls him manipulative. MJF calls Strong a wet blanket and a “bland bitch.” As for Samoa Joe, MJF says he’s not afraid, as he has plenty of bite in MJF. MJF vows to choke Samoa Joe out. He then heavily borrows from the Steiner Math promo to explain why then numbers are not in Samoa Joe’s favor.

Hangman Page vs. Brian Cage

Cage overpowers Page right away. Page rallies with a springboard clothesline that sends Cage to the outside. He dives onto Cage, who catches him and slams him into the ring post. Page sends Cage into the ring post with a hurricanrana. Hangman dives onto Cage at ringside. Page gains the upper hand. Swerve Strickland comes to the stage and distracts Page. Cage capitalizes and drops Page with a German suplex. Page and Cage trade blows. Cage continues to overpower Page.

Cage dumps Page with a spinning slam. Page fires up and clotheslines Cage over the ropes. Page counters Cage and floors him with a crucifix bomb. Hangman hits a diving moonsault to the outside. Page gets a two count with a crossbody. Cage counters the Buckshot Lariat. Page gets a two count with a roll-up and hits the Dead-eye for the win.

Winner: “Hangman” Adam Page

In a post-match promo, Page turns his attention to Swerve Strickland and says Swerve is keeping his balls in Prince Nana’s “Burger King-ass crown.” Swerve makes it clear their issue won’t be solved tonight. He says they’ll do this when he says. Strickland picks the “great state” of Washington as he challenges Page to face him at WrestleDream. Cage attacks Page from behind, and the Young Bucks make the save.

In an interview, Daniel Garcia notes that his dance is going viral, and his career is on the rise. Don Callis approaches him, seemingly trying to recruit Garcia. Garcia dances, rather than saying anything, and walks away.

Darby Allin & Nick Wayne vs. Matt Menard & Angelo Parker

Shortly after the match starts, Christian Cage, alongside Luchasaurus, joins the broadcast team. Menard and Parker isolate Wayne and control the action. Menard slams Parker with a powerbomb. Allin tags in and clears house with a flurry of offense. He gets a two-count with a Code Red. Wayne hits the Wayne’s World for a two count. Allin dives onto Menard at ringside. Allin hits Parker with the Coffin Drop for the win.

Winners: Darby Allin and Nick Wayne

After the match, Christian Cage targets Wayne, saying that he scrolled through his mom’s Instagram account and she doesn’t post enough bikini pictures. He says he’s tired of the talk about Allin and Sting’s win at AEW All In. Cage challenges them to a tag team match on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.

Grand Slam World Title Eliminator Tournament Finals: Roderick Strong (with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) vs. Samoa Joe

Joe gains an early advantage as he overpowers Strong. Joe controls the action as he drills Strong with a barrage of strikes. Strong rallies and grounds Joe. Joe gains the upper hand with a flurry of offense. He squashes Strong with a senton. Strong fights back, but Joe dumps him with a slam. Joe punches Mike Bennett off the apron, and Strong slams him. A running kick earns Strong a two count. Joe levels Strong with a lariat and goes for the Coquina Clutch. Strong taps out.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Joe grabs a microphone and vows to take everything from MJF. Adam Cole comes to the ring, and Strong collapses. Doctors check on him, and a stretcher is brought out for Strong. Cole argues with The Kingdom as Strong is taken to the back. The Kingdom stops Cole from following Strong to the back. Samoa Joe attacks Adam Cole from behind and says he’ll take everything from MJF.
