Ric Flair: Sasha Banks And Charlotte Flair Remind Me Of Myself And Ricky Steamboat

Ric Flair reveals one of the key elements to producing a great match.

Over the course of his 50-year career, Ric Flair has garnered a dozen 5-star matches from Dave Meltzer’s famous rating system, including one contest that earned Flair a remarkable six stars. Backed by those impressive statistics, Everyone Talks To Liz Claman recently asked Flair to share the secret to building a great match. While “great” matches are produced by a multitude of factors, Flair revealed what he believes is one of the key ingredients.

“I think one of the most important ingredients is the chemistry between the two people,” Flair said. “They’ve got to have decent chemistry they initially build off of. Or they’ll get it with each other through having to wrestle with each other a number of times. I look back and I know Sasha Banks, one of my favorites, and she and my daughter (Charlotte Flair) remind me of me and Ricky Steamboat. We just had unbelievable chemistry.”

The Rivalry Of Flair & Steamboat

As Flair alluded to, he and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat became legendary rivals through their work in the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s. Four of their contests were later recorded with five or more stars. The aforementioned six-star match, which took place at an untelevised house show in Landover, Maryland. Reflecting back on their various feuds, Flair attributes part of this success to the connection they shared, which he says is similar to that of Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair.

“We had chemistry from day one. We were really good friends, but we didn’t hang out around a lot of each other. Just did our own thing, but when we got in the ring, we didn’t talk about it. We just went out and did our thing,” Flair said in reference to himself and Steamboat. “When Sasha and [Charlotte] get in the ring, they just owned the world.”
