Because he’s big.
Ricky Starks has a good reason for wanting to link up with Big Bill while he served out his 30-day in-ring suspension in All Elite Wrestling.
Starks spoke with a media gallery at Starrcast, and he was asked about serving as a manager during his in-ring “suspension.” Starks aligned himself with Big Bill during that time, and he explained why the partnership appealed to him.
“Because he’s big. He’s a big guy,” Starks began. “And also too, me and Bill have had some history from a little place in Florida. So there’s that as well. If you’re a deep-diver, go look for that.”
It would appear that Ricky Starks was referencing an NXT tag team match that the two competed in. Big Bill (then Colin Cassady) and Enzo Amore defeated Jack Hurley & Starks on the January 7, 2016 episode of NXT.
Prior to making it big in NWA and AEW, Ricky Starks made several appearances in WWE. In addition to the NXT tag team match, Starks and Aaron Solow also competed against FTR (aka The Revival) on the January 15, 2018 episode of RAW. Starks also worked as an extra that got put through a table by Ryback.
Ricky Starks returned to the ring for a Strap Match against Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out. Read more about the event here.
