WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins shares his thoughts on the state of WWE’s women’s division.
On WWE After The Bell, Corey Graves noted that a lot of the main stars who shaped the women’s evolution are absent right now. He noted that it’s time for someone new to step up and asked Seth Rollins whether he agreed. Rollins stated that he did, as he pointed to a void on the main roster. He stated that the fans want to see something new and fresh.
“I would say 100%, there’s a lot of space to fill there right now,” Seth Rollins said. “On RAW, on SmackDown, I think absolutely, there is a void. What I sense, more than anything, is this kind of bubbling little undercurrent from our audience, like they want something fresh and new. They want to have people to get behind, they want it.
“I’m not saying these people are coming from NXT. You never know, it might be somebody that steps up, a Chelsea Green, a Piper Niven. You never know. There’s tons of women capable on our main roster at the moment. But there is this, I’m feeling it, it’s like this, ‘We want something more out of the women, and we know it’s there, and we can’t wait to see it.’ But there’s a growing intrigue, there’s a growing desire to see it.”
Seth Rollins Highlights Zoey Stark
Seth Rollins continued by pointing to the main-event match between Becky Lynch and Zpey Stark on the August 28 episode of WWE RAW. He stated that Stark us one of the young stars who has the opportunity to lead the next generation into the future.
“I think this past Monday, Zoey Stark was in the ring with my wife, Becky, and they had absolutely wrecked the main event of Monday Night RAW,” Seth Rollins said. “That was Zoey’s first main event on RAW. I told her afterwards, I said, ‘First of many.’ It’s gonna be a huge thing.
“She’s one of them that has the opportunity to really lead this next generation of women into the future. I just think that it’s there. It feels like they’re on the cusp of a breakthrough. I felt like Monday was a huge reminder of what they’re capable of.”
Seth Rollins: Women Haven’t Been Showcased As Well As They Could Have Been In WWE
Rollins went on to share his belief that women have not been showcased as well as they could have been in recent months. He noted that it’s just the nature of the business sometimes, and he has been in the same position. Rollins emphasized that there is an opportunity for the women to step up and thrive.
“I’m gonna be frank with you, they haven’t been showcased as well as they could have been over the past six months or so,” Seth Rollins said. “They haven’t been. Aside from a few exceptions. Sometimes that’s just how the cookie crumbles. That’s part of the industry, it’s part of the business. I’ve been in situations where absolutely, I feel like I’ve not been showcased, or male talent, the same way. It has nothing to do, in my opinion, with gender at all.
“It’s a kind of commentary on where we’re at right now, and more to what you said, there are opportunities. I think Monday was a reminder of how incredible our female talent roster is, can be, when given the opportunity to main-event, to succeed, and to be the best. So I’m with you. I think it’s all there. I just can’t wait to see who steps up and fills that space and grabs that ring.”
