Shane Helms Details How He Made 3 Count Work In WCW

Shane Helms can’t believe that people are still talking about 3 Count decades after it happened.

WWE Superstar Shane Helms was a recent guest on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet. When asked about his time with 3 Count in WCW, Helms says he’s surprised by the way that people still talk about it because it was an act that only lasted nine months.

“With the 3 Count, people really hung on to that a lot,” Shane Helms admitted. “We only did it for nine months. But as much as I hear about 3 Count, you would think I would have done it so much longer. Because I do hear about it all the time, and we weren’t 3 Count all that long. So for a band, as far as boy bands go, I don’t know what the average is on staying together. But we didn’t stay together very long.”

Helms reflected more on the gimmick by saying no matter what the character is; you have to give it 150 percent.

“And that’s another thing, if you’re going to do it, no matter what the character is and no matter what the gimmick is, if you’re going to do it, do it 150 [percent],” Shane Helms said. “And I think that’s what made me and Sugar Shane work. You could tell I was trying to dance; whether it was good or bad, I was committed to it. The other two I can’t speak for them. But I tried, I applied myself.”

Shane Helms isn’t sure the other members of 3 Count applied themselves to the dance routine

When asked about the efforts of Shannon Moore and Evan Karagias in 3 Count, Helms wasn’t sure they applied themselves when it came to learning the dance moves.

“I don’t know if they applied themselves to the dance moves,” Shane Helms admitted. “I actually bought a — I was telling Ricochet this story; I bought a CD burner back then, which was like seven or $900. It was so expensive to burn the song for them so that they could practice the dance at home. Like that’s how committed I was to making that thing work.”
