Willow Nightingale has a lot to be proud of thus far in 2023.
All Elite Wrestling‘s Willow Nightingale recently sat down with MuscleManMalcolm. When asked how it felt to win the Women’s Owen Hart Cup this year, Nightingale said it’s not something she takes lightly.
“So this is obviously the name Owen Hart, the Hart name itself. Both of these are so highly regarded in professional wrestling,” Willow Nightingale said. “And personally, when I finally did win the Owen Hart tournament, I was like, I’m not particularly a technical wrestler, which I think is really what comes to mind when you think of the Hart name and Owen.
“But a lot of people kind of brought to my attention the spirit that I have, and just like the genuine nature, the kind-hearted person that I am really rings true to the spirit of Owen Hart and what it means to be the Owen Hart Cup winner. So it’s something I do not take lightly. It is like a very, very close to my heart kind of honor and privilege to have it. Because this has 2023 on it, which means it will be mine forever and ever. And I’m very grateful.”
Willow Nightingale and Athena are the first two women to main event a Ring of Honor pay-per-view
When asked about main eventing Death Before Dishonor with Athena, Nightingale admitted it’s still cool to be involved in first-time situations like this.
“So luckily, we’re kind of in these days where firsts like this are less and less,” Willow Nightingale said. “Which is like it’s cool to still be in a first-time kind of situation like that. But it also means a lot to me to be in a time, like I said, where it’s a lot more commonplace for women to be main eventing or are main eventing pay-per-view shows. And to be able to do something like Athena, who I think is, if not the best, one of the best women we have in our division in women’s wrestling.
“I think she’s amazing, she’s scary. She’s very scary. But to be able to do that with someone like her is probably one of the most special moments of my career thus far. And it was in Trenton, so it’s not far from home for me, so my mom, my dad, my aunt, and cousin were able to come out, which makes it that much more special. And I didn’t walk out the winner that one, but like walking through the curtain after and having a sigh of like I did it. That was crazy in history-making. It was it was lovely. It was a really beautiful moment in my life. Not just in my career, but in my life.”
