MJF rarely gives credit to someone else for his success, so when he does, you better sit up and pay attention.
AEW World Champion MJF recently sat down with Cameron Hawkins of The Ringer. During the interview, MJF spoke about sending a DM to Cody Rhodes prior to the first All In, hoping to get a match on the show.
“I held my breath, and I sent a DM message to Cody Rhodes,” Friedman explained. “I said, ‘Look, you don’t owe me shit. Matter of fact, you might not even know who this is messaging you, but all I need is an opportunity, and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.’”
Rhodes would eventually get back to MJF and offer him a spot on the card a month before the event. It was the first All In that changed Friedman’s life forever and the catalyst that landed him in All Elite Wrestling.
“And because of that show,” Friedman continued. “I had more eyes on me than I [ever] had in my entire career. And I was offered a contract from both WWE and AEW. And realistically, I don’t think MJF is a thing without Cody Rhodes, and that’s just a f**king fact.”
