New reports shine some light on Ryan Nemeth’s previous talk with CM Punk.
Nemeth was reportedly sent home from the August 12 episode of AEW Collision weeks after he had words with CM Punk. The issue reportedly stemmed from Nemeth’s tweet that responded to Punk’s return promo. In the tweet, Nemeth wrote, “Literally the softest man alive.”
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that, per sources, Punk approached Nemeth backstage when AEW was in Chicago for Dynamite shortly after Punk’s return. Punk reportedly asked Nemeth to “make good” on his tweet in which he seemingly responded to Punk’s return promo. Those close to Punk claimed that he believed Nemeth was trying to score points with his friends.
The conversation moved into a hallway. Punk was said to have asked Nemeth to stop due to the high tensions involved and the efforts to move on. Punk reportedly said that he didn’t want Nemeth being passive aggressive, “unless they were handling it another way.” They shook hands after Nemeth apologized.
In the report, Sapp wrote that CM Punk did not want Nemeth on AEW Collision whatsoever. It was unclear whether that stance stemmed from Nemeth’s tweet or his relationship with The Elite.
More Details On Confrontation Between CM Punk And Ruan Nemeth
Haus of Wrestling reported more information about the “confrontation” between Punk and Nemeth. Punk reportedly told Nemeth to call him soft to his face, and he did not. Punk was said to have pointed out Nemeth’s lack of TV time, which may have been why he was trying to score some points with the EVPs. They then agreed nthat othing physical would be necessary. Punk also asked Nemeth to stop tweeting negative things so that they all could move on.
Wade Keller of PWTorch also reported on the situation. He wrote that, per sources, Punk “cornered” Nemeth in the locker room and angrily asked him if they had a problem. Punk felt that Nemeth heated up the existing tensions, and the tweet sent a bad message. Multiple wrestlers were said to have seen the situation.
Nemeth reportedly defended his comment by noting that Punk took the first shot at the Bucks. Punk told Nemeth his timing was bad, given the situation. When Nemeth asked whether he should stop tweeting about Punk, the latter agreed. Nemeth reportedly backed off after asking friends what to do, given his lack of leverage.
Keller also wrote that AEW CEO Tony Khan stood up backstage when Punk first returned and chanted “CM Punk” at gorillia position.
