Rob Van Dam Comments On Making His AEW Dynamite In-Ring Debut

Despite his loss, Rob Van Dam is feeling pretty positive about his AEW in-ring debut.

During Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Rob Van Dam challenged Jack Perry for the FTW Championship. The title match, of course, was contested under FTW Rules, which led to some intense action. The closing moments of the match saw Perry deliver a low blow to Van Dam before sending him face-first into a chair that was wedged in between the ropes. After that, Perry shifted the ECW legend into a roll-up position, grabbing hold of his tights for extra leverage as Perry secured the pinfall to retain the FTW Championship.

Following his debut on AEW Dynamite, Rob Van Dam shared his reaction to the overwhelming fan support he received. “It felt pretty awesome going out there tonight,” RVD said in a post-match interview. “I got to say, I count on the fans’ positive energy that they bring. I rely on connecting with them, but I’m still overwhelmed when they all have RVD signs and they’re all in unison chanting for me. It always exceeds my expectations. And when that moment is real and I’m connected to them, it’s nothing but love. Love’s the most powerful energy in the universe.”

Fellow ECW alumni Jerry Lynn was also present for the occasion. Looking back on RVD’s valiant performance, Lynn says he is proud of his friend.

“It didn’t go his way tonight, but you know what? The way it happened, you can’t lose any face. I saw what happened. And at least with us two, we always wanted to try and prove how we were the best with wrestling and no shortcuts,” Lynn said.
