Mick Foley Posts Statement In Support Of Ronda Rousey

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley speaks highly of Ronda Rousey.

Following Rousey’s loss to Shayna Baszler at WWE SummerSlam, fans continue to speculate that her time in WWE has come to an end, at least for now. Rousey herself fanned these flames when she wrote that she had “no reason to stay” in the business after her loss. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion is a divisive figure, but Foley had plenty of kind things to say about her.

In a Facebook post, Foley shared his thoughts on Rousey’s contributions to WWE. Specifically, he looked back on her first run with the company. He noted that it didn’t seem like she was as invested the second time around. Foley wrote that Rousey added a “major dose of credibility” to the perception of professional wrestling.

He reflected on her first stint and wrote that she had good-to-great matches. Foley then claimed that it’s highly unlikely that WWE would have had a women’s match main-event WrestleMania 35 without Rousey. The legend continued by comparing her rapid progress to greats like Kurt Angle, Steve Austin, and The Rock. Foley admitted that Rousey was held back by her inability to cut great promos, as she would have otherwise been an all-time great.

Foley closed his message by noting that, for now, he was left to wonder, “What if”. He stated that Rousey could have become one of the top performers in WWE history. The legend wrote that she actually was a great workers with a love and respect for WWE that benefited everyone around her.

Prior to SummerSlam, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Ronda Rousey had a “hard out” date that came before WrestleMania 40.

WresleZone will provide more information about Rousey’s status as it becomes available.
