Kurt Angle Would Rather Fight Brock Lesnar Than Compete In The Elimination Chamber

Kurt Angle talks about why he enjoyed wrestling Brock Lesnar instead of competing inside an Elimination Chamber at WWE SummerSlam 2003.

Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar were one of two World Championship matches at WWE SummerSlam 2003. They competed for the WWE Championship on the SmackDown brand. Triple H defended the gold inside the Elimination Chamber against Goldberg, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, Chris Jericho, and Shawn Michaels for WWE Monday Night RAW’s World Heavyweight Championship.

During the most recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show, Angle was asked whether or not he would rather face Brock Lesnar or be stuck inside the Elimination Chamber. Kurt Angle said it was easy for him to choose Brock Lesnar because of their chemistry as opponents.

“Listen, I would pick Brock over that Chamber match with anybody else—every single day. Brock and I had incredible chemistry, and we were both amateur wrestlers. We could trade amateur wrestling moves and pro wrestling moves. Brock was so easy and versatile to work with. I’ve really had a lot of fun working with him because he understood my movements. He had the same type of movements because we’re amateur wrestlers. So he and I had incredible chemistry.”

Selling Babyfaces

Asked whether or not he had to change his style to work this particular match babyface against a heel Brock Lesnar, Angle said he preferred being the heel because heels get to lead the matches.

“I was a little less aggressive. I sold more because babyfaces do all the selling. So, it was different. I was so used to being a heel all the time. I was the one that was being aggressive and getting the heat on my opponent. But here, I didn’t mind either way, but I prefer wrestling as a heel because you lead the match, and you end up, you know, being the aggressor.”

Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar would have one more match as part of this series, an Iron Man Match on an episode of SmackDown where Brock Lesnar would win back the WWE Championship one last time in his original WWE run, which ended after WrestleMania 20 in 2004.

In the past, Angle has talked about Brock Lesnar almost ending up in TNA Wrestling with him, but TNA not wanting to shell out the money for him.
