Finn Balor: Dominik Mysterio Was Merely A Boy, Judgment Day Made Him A Man

Finn Balor believes Dominik Mysterio is now a man.

Next month marks one year since Dominik Mysterio officially joined The Judgement Day. Since then, Mysterio has shed his happy-go-lucky persona and molded himself into the conniving, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio. While Dominik’s transformation has drawn much criticism from his father, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor asserts that Dominik has demonstrated immense growth after joining forces with himself, Rhea Ripley, and Damian Priest last year.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling, Balor issued a brief, but powerful, message to Rey. “When Dominik came to The Judgment Day, he was merely a boy, but now, trust me, he is a man,” Balor said.

Under the assistance of The Judgment Day, Dominik Mysterio also captured his first singles championship in WWE. On the July 18 episode of WWE NXT, Mysterio challenged Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship. Thanks to interference from The Judgment Day, Mysterio snapped Lee’s eight-month winning streak, and became the new NXT North American Champion. Mysterio has had three successful title defenses since then.

Destined To Be A Big Star

Long before Dominik Mysterio blossomed into “Dirty” Dom, Finn Balor had full faith that he would be a huge star for The Judgment Day. In November 2022, Balor shared his praise for Mysterio, commending him for the confidence he exuded as he transitioned into a heel role.

“Dominik [slipped] into the role so seamlessly, because people forget he kind of debuted about a year before he turned heel, and he was learning on the job,” Balor previously told BT Sport. “He wasn’t doing that much training, and I mean that with the greatest amount of respect, but he had a couple months training I think with Lance [Storm] and little bits here and there with his dad and stuff, but not an immense amount of training to be in the deep end on live TV for WWE.”

“He was only kind of adapting to that, and then he was thrown this huge curveball where he’s now turning on his dad and playing a completely different character. The way he’s slipped into that character, it’s incredible to watch. I remember the first night that he was going out to do a heel promo and going up to him to try and calm him down a little bit. ‘Don’t worry, everything’s gonna be cool.’ He says, ‘I’m cool, bro. Don’t worry.’ I said, ‘You know what you’re gonna say?’ He says, ‘Nah, I’ll figure it out.’ He went out there, just super chilled and that’s how he is. I think he’s gonna be a huge star for us.”
