WWE offered up a medical update on Rey Mysterio following his reported legitimate injury against Santos Escobar last week.
During Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Michael Cole noted that Mysterio suffered “severe whiplash” during his loss to Escobar on the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown. According to Cole, Mysterio was still considered day-to-day.
Mysterio faced Santos Escobar in the finals of the United States Championship Invitational on Friday. The match came to a premature conclusion after Mysterio seemingly suffered an injury. The referee stopped the match after the medical team checked on him. Multiple outlets reported that the injury was legitimate.
Despite the injury, Mysterio did appear on the August 1 episode of NXT, and said that he would be appearing on the August 8 episode to be in Dragon Lee’s corner for his NXT North American Championship match against Rey’s son, Dominik Mysterio.
