Cody Rhodes wants to be in a WarGames match, but he doesn’t feel like it will happen this year.
Dusty Rhodes, Cody’s father, created the WarGames match, also known as “The Match Beyond”, in 1987. It was then featured at WCW events over the years. After WWE acquired WCW, the match was practically dormant until WWE started using it for NXT in 2017.
WWE brought the WarGames match into the spotlight for Survivor Series 2022, which marked its first appearance as part of a main roster show. The Bloodline memorably defeated the Brawling Brutes, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens in a hard-fought bout. Cody missed the event due to an injury, and he doesn’t expect to be a part of it in 2023.
Speaking with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Cody noted that he believes it’s “just not gonna happen” for him this year.
“I’m not gonna get picked for the WarGames team or who knows what I could be doing that night,” Rhodes said. “It would be a really special thing if I could.”
As of this writing, WWE has not confirmed that WarGames will return for WWE Survivor Series 2023. The pay-per-view has been announced for Saturday, November 25.
