Carmelo Hayes still reigns supreme following WWE NXT Great American Bash.
Hayes headlined the July 30 premium live event, as he defended the NXT Championship against Ilja Dragunov. They went back and forth all throughout the bout in a hard-fought contest. Dragunov used his brutal strikes to control the action, while Hayes kept countering with his acrobatic offense. Dragunov got a thrilling near fall when he countered Hayes’ Nothing But Net into a powerbomb.
Dragunov was seemingly on the verge of victory in the closing stages. However, as he charged Hayes at ringside, he accidentally nailed Trick Williams, and he seemingly hit the NXT Title upon impact. Hayes then pinned Dragunov with the Nothing But Net to continue his impressive reign.
