Tiffany Stratton defended the NXT Women’s Championship against Thea Hail at NXT Great American Bash.
Hail previously challenged Stratton for the title on the June 27 episode of WWE NXT. During the bout, Hail made Stratton tap out, but the referee didn’t see it due to a distraction from Drew Gulak and Charlie Dempsey. Hail later challenged Stratton to face her in a Stipulation Match at NXT Great American Bash.
The two stars threw everything they had at each other in a hard-fought match. Hail nearly scored the win when she trapped Stratton in the Kimura Lock, but the champion reached the ropes. Stratton seized control when she hit a moonsault onto Hail’s back. She then wrenched Hail’s back in a single-leg crab.
Hail was clearly determined to keep fighting, but she had nowhere to go, and she was far from the ropes. Andre Chase, her teacher at Chase U, reluctantly threw in the towel. As a result, Stratton retained the title with another controversial win.
