Cody Rhodes comments on the origins of his neck tattoo.
Rhodes debuted the tattoo of his “American Nightmare” logo at AEW Revolution 2020. It has remained a prominent part of his look ever since.
Rhodes answered some fan questions on July 30, and one user asked him about the tattoo. They wondered what inspired Rhodes to get the ink. He responded by noting that he didn’t really know. Rhodes then wrote that two guys, one with a chest tattoo and one with a bull on his arm, inspired him. He stated that he wanted to wear his own brand loudly and proudly. However, he didn’t want to copy their style.

Cody Rhodes Talks JR’s Reaction To His Tattoo
Cody Rhodes previously recalled WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross reacted to the tattoo. Speaking on IMPAULSIVE, he detailed an AEW production meeting where Ross stared when he saw it.
“A lot of people were like, ‘Neck? Neck?’ My boss at the time, this was when I was at AEW, he just thought, ‘No way. It’s not gonna be your neck.’ Then I walked into the production meeting, and I remember Jim Ross, a legendary wrestling announcer, literally just [mimics Ross staring]. He, the whole meeting, was just staring at it, not listening to anything.”
Rhodes will face Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam on August 5. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
