Drew McIntyre On Rumors Of His WWE Absence: There Might’ve Been Some Smoke With Some Fire

Did Drew McIntyre just seemingly lend some credibility to the reports about his absence from WWE earlier this year?

RAW Superstar Drew McIntyre recently sat down with TMZ Sports. When asked about his recent time away from WWE, McIntyre said there might have been some smoke with some fire to some of the headlines about him while he was away.

“It was cool getting a break. A lot of rumors and headlines on the internet when I was out,” Drew McIntyre said. “Probably 50 different things. It was amazing all of the stories about me out there. When you’re not on TV, people talk, and there might have been some smoke with some fire with a few of them. But it was nice people were talking about me when I wasn’t there.”

Before his return, McIntyre had been absent since he lost to Gunther and Sheamus in a three-way match at WrestleMania 39. McIntyre’s contract was reportedly coming up soon and the two sides allegedly couldn’t agree on how McIntyre would be used.

During the WWE Money in the Bank post-show press conference, Triple H was asked about McIntyre’s absence. Triple H said McIntyre was injured and “he had something else he wanted to get fixed” while he was out. The WWE Chief Content Officer was in regular contact with McIntyre and if he had another issue, it was “news to him.”

Getting Perspective

Beyond the rumors, McIntyre revealed that there were some things he had to get fixed physically. But luckily for him, there was no rehab involved.

“But I did have to get some things fixed physically,” Drew McIntyre continued. “Unlike injuries I’ve had in the past, there was no rehab involved, so I was able to actually enjoy my time home and work on some outside projects. Spent time with the Missus and the cat. And a chance to stand outside the bubble and get perspective again.

“When you’re inside the bubble, work 52 weeks a year, you go go go. Sometimes you can lose that perspective. And the last time I really had a hard look at myself outside the bubble was 2014 when I got fired by WWE. This time I didn’t have to get fired, thank goodness. I just had some time off, and I was able to sit down and reassess things. Think about what I want to achieve within the industry and as a person and return with that mindset and come right into a huge match that I’m very excited for.”
