Brian Cage Feels The Core AEW Audience Hates On Him For His WWE Attributes

Brian Cage discusses whether he feels underappreciated in wrestling, and he says he feels like the core AEW audience hates on him due to his WWE attributes.

Cage is one-third of the ROH World Tag Team Champions. He was previously featured on AEW TV, and he had a lengthy run as the FTW Champion. Though he mostly competes on ROH programming, he remains part of both AEW and ROH.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Cage was asked whether he feels like he has been underappreciated in wrestling. He noted that he feels like the core AEW audience hates on him because of his WWE attributes, such as his size, charisma, and athleticism.

“In certain regards, yes. I also feel like, especially with our core audience in AEW, I feel like they almost hate on me a little bit because of all those attributes you just said about me,” Cage said. “I almost feel like that screams WWE, right. So I almost feel like, in some regards, I almost feel like it’s anti me, like ‘Oh, he doesn’t belong here. He’s too jacked, he does this,’ which are all positives, in my book, but I almost feel like, ‘I’m on the wrong team.’

“I can toot my own and go okay, maybe that’s just because they can’t be me and they’d rather attach on to like Darby Allin or something they can live more vicariously through as opposed to someone like me.”

Cage will compete on the July 7 episode of AEW Rampage; he and Big Bill will face Trent Beretta and Matt Sydal in a Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament Match. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
