Billy Corgan will continue to book the National Wrestling Alliance as he sees fit.
NWA President Billy Corgan was a recent guest on Good Karma Wrestling. When asked if his locker room can take being true heels in the public eye, Corgan believes they can. Corgan went as far as saying he’s the biggest heel in the company because he won’t cater to others’ demands.
“Oh yeah, we got a lot of tough hombres and ladies in there. I don’t think we go out of our way to court controversy,” Billy Corgan said. “I also think we are very proud of who we are. Not everybody agrees. That’s the modern wrestling fan. Part of being a modern wrestling fan is getting on social media and voicing your opinion.
“Which is totally fine; I just draw the line on where the fans book the promotion. I’m not a fan of the fans booking the card or the promotion. At the end of the day, in that way, I’m probably the biggest heel in NWA because I just won’t turn the NWA into every other wrestling company that’s out there.”
Tyrus Brings The Heat
When asked about his continued defense of Tyrus as champion, Corgan still believes that his champion’s heat is more politically related than anything else.
“To cast him as a modern superstar in an era of diversity. In an era of heightened political tension, he can take it,” Billy Corgan said. “I can take it. And as I’ve tried to say and I tried to say it to the New York Times, maybe I didn’t say it as artfully as I would have liked in hindsight. At the end of the day, if people are afraid of controversy in wrestling, I don’t know what they’re doing in wrestling. Wrestling is about heat.
“George Murdoch, the man they call Tyrus, he brings the heat. He’s on one of the biggest late-night shows in the world. He carries proudly the NWA title on his shoulder as world champion. I’m willing to go into battle with that man because I know that man. If people want to come at us on it, then that’s fine.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to assume that Tyrus is going to beat up your guys nine times out of 10. In your world you want to believe your 5’7 super high-flying, Meltzer 18-star match guy can beat up my 6’7 325 pound guy, you go right ahead. I’m not living in that reality. I’m living in the other reality.”
