Eddie Kingston Defeats KENTA To Become New Japan STRONG Openweight Champion

Eddie Kingston has accomplished his dream of winning championship gold in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Earlier this morning in Tokyo, Japan, on day two of the NJPW Strong Independence Day event in Korakuen Hall, Eddie Kingston defeated Bullet Club’s KENTA to win the New Japan STRONG Openweight Championship for the first time.

In the closing moments of the match, Kingston hit a spinning back fist, followed by a devastating brainbuster to pin KENTA and become champion.

It’s likely that we won’t see Kingston appear on All Elite Wrestling or Ring of Honor programming with his newly won title anytime soon, however, as he is scheduled to compete in this month’s G1 Climax in Japan from July 15 to August 13.

The Mad King also competed at NJPW Strong Independence Day night one when he and Rocky Romero defeated KENTA and Gedo in tag team action.
