LA Knight has heard the chatter from people who say he imitates The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
SmackDown Superstar LA Knight recently spoke with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport following Money in the Bank to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if it bothers him that some people call him a knock-off of Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock, Knight said people will always make comparisons because that’s the easiest thing for people to do.
“You know what, people are always gonna make comparisons. It’s the easiest thing for people to do,” LA Knight said. “If you have something that’s familiar to you, and here’s this new entity, alright, what can I compare it to so that I can make it feel familiar to me? That’s fine. Whatever you need to do, go ahead and do it. I am me. I’m the one. I’m the only; I’m LA Knight.”
When asked if there was any truth to the idea that he’s taken from Austin and Rock and turned it into his own, LA Knight said those two were his “bread and butter” growing up, and they were the guys he wanted to be like when he was a teenager.
“Look, when I was in high school, those guys were my bread and butter. Those were the guys that like I wanted to be when I was like 16, 17 years old,” LA Knight said. “So I’m sure there’s –hell, my normal just speech pattern every day when I’m talking to you is probably somehow derived from them.
“Whether that’s purposeful or not, and it’s definitely not, so it’s just the fact that I sat there and watched every single episode on Monday Night RAW. I had all the little VHS cassette tapes when, like you know, the Stone Cold Said So or The Rock Says and stuff like that. So I watched all that stuff. So then you’re talking about formidable years, very moldable years.
“So maybe I’ve just penetrated my brain in some way. But whether you want to make the comparisons here, I’ll tell you what, let’s make this comparison. You want to say that I’m the Kobe to their Jordan. I’ll take it.”
LA Knight went on to confirm that he’s met both The Rock and Stone Cold but at no point did the conversation steer in this direction with either of them.
“No, not at all,” LA Knight said. “No, no, it’s never even been a topic of discussion.”
